Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

You are misinformed. It is stable, just a nightmare for bukkit to support.

Except its not. We have been getting many reports about clients crashing due to its use.

Keep the discussion about it off these forums. Frankly, if these people actually wanted to go ahead and do all the work Bukkit does, they should have done so instead of distributing a hacked 1.3.2 and calling it a 1.4.2 build, and claiming they updated faster than Bukkit.

Its insulting to everyone who has put in the time and effort to produce Bukkit and CraftBukkit, and misleading to the entire Minecraft community.

I've read through as much of the thread as I could and couldn't see this suggested, but so sorry if it's redundant:

Why not just have a page (not a forum post) somewhere that's an obvious status message on the latest version, and then let people just hit reload on that as many times as they want? It could be a static "It's not ready yet but we're working on the next version." If it's in the forums people are going to keep asking (even though you've made it clear) and everyone will fill their time sniping at each other. Just an idea.

    Right here: http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/

If you do not see a build for 1.4.2 out, then 1.4.2 has not been released.

by the way everyone, minesworn is currently a vanilla server.

this is, by far, the worse release i've seen from mojang in a while. there are constant lag spikes, and there seems to be some kind of terrible memory leak going on, with garbage collection having to kick in every few seconds. also random stack traces, and glitched mob locations to go with java hpiderror crashes. bukkit will have their hands full cleaning up after the sloppy swedes

They should remove the entire forum and replace it with a static page that simply states, "No, bukkit 1.4.2 is not available. When it is you will find it at http://dl.bukkit.org/"

... or just redirect everyone to the Get Bukkit splash page.

He was not complaining he was informing all the people complaining about no bukkit 1.4.2 server that stock vanilla 1.4.2 server is full of bugs including but not limited to a Memory Leak which is pretty severe and he goes on to mention the his garbage collection is kicking in every few seconds and If I am correct that means he's running a SSD which is high performance but if Garbage collections kicking in that often that could be very detrimental to his SSD lifespan

That's actually not a bad idea. Though you could simplify it by just having the word "NO" really big on the page. ANd then "YES!" when it is available.

Your not very savvy with net lingo he's referring to the massive amounts of useless messages being posted to the point they now have to closely monitor this thread and take time away from there work to "approve of" messages as well as replying to the mass of useless spam.

so you have a vanilla server with more then a populous of 1 that is hosting fine with users constantly working away? no lag spikes nothing (are you in control of this server if that's the case) do you actually have access to the hardware logs and monitor resource usage? from what I get from his post is the Vanilla Server he's referring to is a popular one that has a fair amount of users

    Dear Bukkit,
I don't want to sound impatient or anything, but I was just wondering if the craftbukkit.jar for 1.4.2 will be out by tomorrow, before noon. I was wanting to know this because I had planned a big survival games event that I'm going to be hosting on my server tomorrow night at 7, and I hope to get the server updated to 1.4.2 before then so all the 40 people will be able to get on with the current MC version.
    Thank you

I did the mistake of updating Minecraft >_< Well, I wasn't going to update, but the friend I was building with freaked out and yelled "I can't take this! YOLO!" Then left the game to update. Being the dumbass I am, I updated right after he did.

First thing I have to say, it's a breakthrough. For the first time in Minecraft history, we now have Carrots! lol, I do like a couple of the stuff, but most of it seems too difficult for my learning (I'm looking at you, Beacons.) I have been able to do some more brewing, which is splendid as I have one of the best potion shops on a server I play on!

But, I don't feel good playing alone, I get lonely, and no one can see my work. Oh well, just a few more days!

Good luck Bukkit, and no rush!

Even if it were to be finished by then, do you really think it's a good idea to plan a huge event at the same time as a fairly significant release? Bad Idea. Best to stay with what you got since you know it works. And it won't be ready by then anyway so....

Most likely not. Expect at least around a week, at most 2 days before 1.5.

if you do a Google search, you'll be able to find the .jar for 1.3.2 out there on the nets, to play with non-updated servers .

As for me, the little server I have just for a few close friends is on a new map (with the same seed as the old one) and a vanilla server; right now it's enough fun just exploring the new features of 1.4.2 (which, btw, isn't buggy afaik). I'm also pleased at how fast people are on updating. Rei's minimap is already working great (even without modloader).

Swamps are really crazy at night. Slimes are rare no longer (this may even need to be turned down just a Notch).

By the time Bukkit is ready for prime time, I imagine we'll be back to normal operation with all the most popular mods and such too. (lets hope that there aren't too many plugin issues to further infuriate the adolescents).

In the meantime, just forget about bukkit for a week. Play vanilla, try the mobile version (it's pretty good, plays a lot like the last beta Minecraft). or play outside. Something of that nature.

Bukkit devs/staff - thanks for all the hard work, it is really appreciated by the vast majority of your users. You provide an awesome (free) service in a very structured and professional way. I'm glad you guys don't try to force an artificial release date just to silence a demanding minority - the reason Bukkit is so trusted is that users know what to expect quality wise from the different builds (dev/beta/rec).
