Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

No, they have hacked (and I mean HACKED) 1.3 to accept 1.4 clients. It's ugly and you shouldn't do it. (Nor will we provide any support for it)

lool you know what would shut everyone up you ever go to those other sites where you say get a texture pack and it will have a percentage line you all could implement one of those and update hourly
then we would never have a reason to ask just look at the percentage line

Kids need to stay off discussion forums. The post a few pages back about government agencies and releases... super teenager alert!!! I'm surprised so many people humor the tweens with a valid response, as if it will enlighten them.

If you read earlier in the thread, there is no point in getting one of these, as they could easily get 99% done in about 1 day, but find in that last percentage, a huge gaming breaking bug, which could take about 1 week to fix, even though it could be like 3 lines of code, but they might have to remove it, and have no idea how to fix it.

They've edited the 1.3.2 jar to allow 1.4.2 clients to join - Try get a 1.4 block, and you won't find one, its just a manipulated 1.3.2 craftbukkit jar which allows 1.4.2 clients

It sounds like it's modified to allow 1.4.2 clients to connect; but I bet you won't see any 1.4.2 features server side

Could this be created using standard bukkit hooks? For science of course. And no, I won't be coming back here asking for support if my computer blows up and my house catches on fire.
(Also, that guy above me is hosting a server for cracked clients and the cracked client itself.)

Actually they won't get their map corrupted, because i bet they have a dummy block by doing

    Block.byId[...] = new Block(...)

They wouldn't even need one, since the server blocks invalid blocks - just like it does for hacked clients. Some kind of unsupported developer-only "skip version check" wouldn't be too bad. Admins just need to know what they're doing.

Yep im testing the 1.4.2 in Offline mode on a side server to test all new feature that i can't test alone. And ive stopped my craftbukkit server untill recommended CB is released. Something wrong ? I don't ask for any support. Why the hell do you care ? We are here to talk about the the future release of CB 1.4 with constructive stuff. ALL testers test in offline mode. Come on kid, grow a bit and come back in the conversation when you ll get few centimeters more. Thanks for you constructive report.

Nothing really wrong with hacking in to allow 1.4 clients, granted we have havent done it at Herocraft because our player base isnt that fickle :p

I'll keep the server up with 1.3.2 R2 until 1.4.x comes out then. You're doing a great job Bukkit team!

With all respect to bukkit working for us, but it isn't managed at all. Minecraft is a community what grows more and more online and i think we can't just let it happen that by each update servers get in trouble. If you start something, manage it correctly. And don't let 2 groups what are dependable of eachother work seperate. In the future i hope this is finally going to happen.

The point is that its not stable, the client will not work correctly with it

to be true, Mojang should work with bukkit! so we don't need to wait for any update. if they work together, i bet minecraft will get better. more creative and stuff

You're talking as if you're speaking with authority regarding Mojang AND Bukkit. Who are you again? Mojang does what Mojang does, and everybody else follows suit. This is the way of things. Mojang even recruits from Bukkit because they are THAT good! :D

Anyway, Where's this $30 figure sprung from? Who says my free server cannot continue to be a free server? Does Mojang currently charge me for running a server? No. Does Bukkit ever charge me for running a server? No. Why then would the two entities combined mean I would have to start paying for a server?
