    Update (Oct 27 @ 10:24 PM EST): We've just pushed out our first CraftBukkit for Minecraft 1.4.2 development build, see this post for more information.

    --------------------------

    With the Minecraft 1.4 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.4. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

    Due to the rapid release of preview builds for the impending 1.4 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.4.2. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.4 preview was made available to the public, each new preview build leads to delays in our update process as we, essentially, need to start over with each one.

    In the past releasing a Recommended Build has caused apparent confusion within the community, as a result for this release, and moving forward, we will follow the "Dev -> Beta -> Recommended Build" release methodology. We are going to release a Beta build as soon as we can get a stable build devoid of any significant bugs.

    As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.3.2 builds, we have promoted a new Recommended Build recently. This was done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.4 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.3.2 RB.

    Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

    Not sure what you mean but even for me my stock 1.4.2 could not join ANY 1.3.x servers running bukkit or even Mojang's servers. So thats really on Mojang purely alone dealing with backward compatibility. Does not bukkit just build on what is released by Mojang its not like they have control over it. If Bukkit was making the client as well then I could see that happening as they have their hands in both the server and client.

    Ps. wanna see you unobfuscate code every single week and it doesnt help when you dealing with a new build of obfuscated code.

    MCP has been updated for a while. Download it, open server files in eclipse, change what you want and recompile. Not as good as having Bukkit, of course, but you can make some things nicer such as the default messages/formatting just by searching for them and changing what you want. :D

    i made a little patch for the current minecraft_server.jar
    open the jar with winrar or somehting and add this class in:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/67122021/cm.class

    this patch blocks a few words to be said and replaces it with: *****
    this is the list:
    * gay
    * fuck
    * penis
    * asshole
    * boobs

    it also blocks it upper_case
    i use this to block swearing a bit on vanilla servers
    coded it quickly in 5 min using mcp v7.14

    I heard 1.4 is a pretty unique update. It will increase minecraft gameplay by a lot. I believe.

    I agree. There was a major failure on Mojang's part to release a stable pre-release w/ enough time for developers to make changes. Pre-releasing testing versions means nothing to developers if the actual update is going to be completely different. As problems were found, they should have continued to push the release back.

    I thought I was very polite in my posts and explained that I am not upset with Bukkit for being delayed on updates. However, I think they should post more information along the way. For all I know, today's post is the first time that they bothered even trying to make it work. I don't completely blame them for that (see above), but again, I would have liked more information along the way.

    There always members who don't check our website or who haven't logged on for a couple days. There is also a large percentage of our users who are young and do not know any better. I do not see how I am in the wrong to want more updates from Bukkit.

    How ironic for you to tell me to stop whining.

    I ran a very successful server in 2010/2011 with HMOD. I've been through the worst of the worst when it comes to server software. The problems with HMOD pushed me away from Minecraft for a long time and I only recently got back into it. Bukkit on its worst day seems to be a lot smoother and better maintained than HMOD was on its best day, but I still feel that Bukkit could be more transparent about the process.

    There is no official 1.4 CraftBukkit yet. Anyone who tells you otherwise is trolling, using the Mojang version, or modifying a 1.3.2 to accept 1.4.2 clients (which is only going to end in bad things).

    You will see an update on http://dl.bukkit.org when a build is out.

    He posted that on July 28th, so that means he started on July 26th, so according to your update that's five days plus two days.

    That's the pre-release. We only measure against the full release, which came out this morning. Pre-releases can change (as we have seen this week) and while we do try to update for the pre-release, we still must follow Mojang's release.
    We are transparent.

    Honestly, has no one else put it together how pre-releases only started coming out after the original Bukkit team joined Mojang? It happened because those guys know the pain the modding community goes through during a new release, and as such wanted to allow time for that modding community to prepare.

    You can do that on your own actually if you want... make a batch file for each version. Have copies of the multiple versions (so far I know works with 1.3.2 and 4.2.1 ) with the version name on it in the ./bin dir, then in your batch file have it delete the minecraft.jar, copy the version you wish loaded as minecraft.jar then run the launcher program. This way depending which batch file you run, it will automatically switch the jars for you (granted I tried this solely with MP. and havent tried SP and not sure if SP maps are backwards compatible 1.4.2 <> 1.3.2) Actually what the game needs is just to flat out not hardcoded for its location ie .roaming and let you just install multiple locations for the diff versions.

    Or just use a launcher that lets you pick what jar file to launch. :)

    please i am waiting for the update....... oh wait im not 12.... and i run a professional server... not something from my mommy's dell laptop..... and i understand the time and work involved in getting this update done. My only real complant is the lack of cooperation from Mojang with the bukkit devs. Considering how many bukkit servers are out there you would think Mojang would take an interest and do something to better time the updates between the two. also, no matter how many times i tell my players "dont update untill we tell you to" 1/2 of them always do then complain on my website that they cant get into the server. standard responce = well, you should have listened and not updated DUMBASS!. Thank you bukkit team for all your hard work and keep on truckin!

    There is an incredible amount of co-operation that goes on, but Mojang did state they would have a release out on the 24th, and they're now held to that by the community. ETA's can be a double edged sword.
