Is this against the rules?

This plugin has an auto message that displays an ad for there server every 2 hours, and they make you buy a "premium" version to get rid of it.
I think that is the most dumb thing i have ever seen on bukkit.
So is it ok if i would remove the message from the plugin then give the custom version to the users who requested it to be gone?

You cannot technically sell a plugin or anything minecraft related, where be at mods or plugins, as seen in minecraft T.O.S.
    Short answer; TnT

    looking into it.

Well, the first one was a stolen plugin so that's good to fix.

I am the author. The only difference between the free version (without a key) and the unlimited version (if you give me 5 bucks for a key) is the nag message is removed. The free version has all the modules/features, nothing is restricted, the ONLY difference is the 2 hour announcement that you are using my plugin.

The existence of the nag message is clearly documentation on the project description page as well as on the documentation on my website. I was experimenting and in the last couple of version of my plugin I did this because I wasn't getting any donations at all to support the development of my plugin, like lots of people I have bills to pay too, I just wanted something. The response has been mixed to say the least, some in favor most against (read the comments on the project page)... if I violated any rules, I apologize... hell delete the project if you want to, I'm starting not care at this point after all the hard work I put in, I figured hey people are free to use the plugin or not, the announcement is obvious, if people don't like it they don't have to use my plugin. But apparently it causes people to get a stick up their ass bad enough to try and take me down.

Fine, take me down if you want, I don't care, or tell me I can't do that and should remove it, and I'll remove it in the next version in favor of some other method. Is it okay if I make it so you can only have certain features active? I mean just like on mobile device development (android / ios) you have the pay store and the free store, and apps in the free store don't necessarily have to unlock the whole thing, you can have a premium version as long as you aren't being deceptive in what you're offering.

I dunno people are being so nasty about it at this point, they want everything for free, I was just trying to find a way to get a few bucks so I can justify to myself the time I put into my little project...

Talk to me, take me down, do whatever you wanna do, I don't care just tell me what you're doing and why. My plugin only has a couple thousand downloads but until I added this feedback was almost universally positive, people loved it because it was one plugin that had very popular features and people were saying "awesome i can replace 5 or 6 plugins with this one" etc etc. And lots of unique features too

But at this point I'm wondering if it's worth all the effort.... tell me what you wanna do, replace it with some other method of encouraging donations, tell me if it's free-or-not-at-all, I'm not sure what the rules are, as usual there's gray areas in between. If I can't have any limitations on the downloadable version of the plugin at all, then I can decide whether I wanna continue development and upload a new version with it removed or whether I should stop the project completely. But I don't wanna decide whether to stop unless I have all the facts of whether I crossed the line and where exactly the line is.

    Anyway let me know.

Okay so apparently it isn't allowed, since the project has been officially flagged.

So I have one question, then. If I don't sell anything, don't have a premium version at all, is it okay if I have a message that broadcasts that I made the plugin? If I don't make any money at all is it ok if I just include that and make no way to get rid of it?

Before if you gave me 5 bucks I'd give an option to remove it. Since I can't get any money, is it okay if I still have the ad and have no way to remove it at all? People are free to use the plugin or not, the issue is just making money isn't it?

The project page requires removal of the paid request, and the versions of the plugin with the payment nag are removed.

We don't allow selling plugins here, at all, period. That includes selling enabling of features or selling new features. If you feel that you can't program a plugin without people paying you, then this is not the community for you.

You're welcome to keep the nag, for ALL users. Everyone. You can't select by who paid you and who didn't.

Okay great! Exactly what I wanted to know.
I will make a new version very quickly that has the nag message for ALL users, and I will take down the section of my website where it offers a premium license (and remove from the code where it looks for a premium license). So I will make no money at all, and the nag message will be there for everybody. I will get that version done in the next 24 hours, hopefully sooner.

Thanks mbaxter :) Sorry if I annoyed you by sending you a PM as well as posting in this thread.

mbaxter Can you answer my original question? lol
pzxc I understand your reasoning for putting the message in the plugin, but if theres no premium option then what is the point in having it if no one else wants it? I highly dought it will get your server any members at all, if any in the first place.
Im not insulting or anything, just a question.

The license it's released under says "no" so no you can't.

What would the difference be between his premium, and Buycraft's premium?

My thoughts exactly, what about buycrafts premium?

I think it's ok if its not involved with bukkit, because they only offer the premium on there website.
And it also only gives you more features on there website, not the plugin itself.

That's what I've always thought. You get the exact same features from using the plugin, paid or not.
