So ive read on the forums about the fact that craftbukkit 1.3 may not be out exactly the time of the release of 1.3 .......Right well if it is will plugins be updated for the new build as well?
An RB won't be ready right away. It may take days after 1.3 to have an stable build of bukkit for 1.3. Plugins for 1.3 being update will all depend on the plugin developer. Although I believe that some plugins will probably work. I'd assume something like permissions would still work.
Snipes01 Keyword being 'may'. A dev build could be available hours after the 1.3 release or like you said a few days. I dont have any issue using developmental builds since the bugs are usually not bad. Aaron8059 Most plugins will work assuming your plugins authors keep up with their work. Plugins which hook into craftbukkit itself will likely break, other plugins likely won't. It's hard to tell...
There is no way of telling if they will work or not. You'll have to try when the dev builds come out. I want to say even more so for intensive plugins Craftbook.
Hay here is an Idea, learn to code plugins and you will not have to worry about 3rd party plugins getting updated. Thats what I did, so now I simply wait for the fine folks at Bukkit to release their update and I am off and running 100% on 1.3 rpgminecraft.com | adultminecraft.net
boduzapho has a point. Otherwise your completely dependent on someone else's decision whether or not to upgrade. Sometimes it takes months for a plugin to update. That includes big plugins like disguisecraft, MobDisguise, MobArena.
The price is right though ; ). The best way to handle this situation is just to wait until the bukkit update comes out, and TEST before you let players run rampant on your server. Anything else is just guessing.
Hey, I am not saying it is easy, My plugin covers everything BUT Mob Disguise, and honestly my players don't miss that at all, however it is WORTH it. I run automated hunger games every hour, I don't ever have to reset anything, and were doing the run for wool, completely automated in the main server world, games every 4 hours. We may not be the most popular server but my players are loyal, and that's why I work so hard to make them a good server. My plugin is almost 1 meg in size now, and took months to get just right. The big payoff is times like now, when bukkit releases their 1.3, were golden. rpgminecraft.com | adultminecraft.net
I would absolutely love to see your response if you ever called a help desk and they said "why not learn to program and make it yourself" as their reply to your problem.
This is not a "Paid" for application.. You cannot demand work when your not paying for it. Or are you one of those self righteous asses who thinks the world owes them something? These guys work hard for little or NO compensation. So some respect and appreciation. Maybe get off YOUR lazy ass and become part of the solution and not part of the problem. Your statement has to be the stupidest thing I have read here in a along time. Thanks for the laugh.
I wasn't disrespectful. I merely tried to point out that you gave the most impractical advice possible. I fully appreciate the software package, and haven't said anything otherwise. Stop making assumptions. Telling you that "learn to program and just make your own set of addons" is stupid advice is by no means trash talking the product, as you somehow seem to think it is. Where did I demand work? Where did I complain? I actively contribute to the Ubuntu GNU, and I would never offer the advice of "well just reprogram it" when samba stops working for someone. Just because I can doesn't make it practical for them... and it also doesn't mean they are hating my product when they tell me I'm being stupid. Too much logic for you? Need a script to explain?
Your response was rude and a cheap shot. All your doing is looking for attention. Id offer you a script but I doubt you would understand.. I will pat you on the back for helping out.. I will offer you the advice to extend your talents to a non open source project that will actually prove to be successful. Open source projects are doomed to fail as there is no structure and no requirements for contributors, I'm not saying your bad at what you do, but god knows most are. Too many bad cooks in the kitchen. And most of the Linux community agree's with me. EDIT by Moderator: merged posts, please use the edit button instead of double posting.
Cheap shot, maybe, but far from rude. I think telling a bunch of casual gamers that they should take up programming if they want to have the right to ask a question IS rude. You still haven't told me where I did the things you accused me of. So I guess that means both of us are just looking for attention? Either way... your comment was retarded. "learn to program and make your own". Even a super-geek would call that a stupid line of advice. People should just wait it out. Bukkit will be here soon, like it always is. Bukkit will kick ass, like it always does. Give it 2 weeks and none of this will matter, and the script kiddies can continue to think they are actually programmers.
Not everyone has that much free time where they can develop plugins for their entire server. Also not everyone runs a hunger games server. Most servers are survival and need plugins like LWC, essentials, logblock.. Why would anyone both to rewrite all the needed plugins when they do the job just fine? I can see people updating the plugins their server uses if an update breaks them and then replace it with the dev's release... Maybe if they were asking about wether or not they should learn programming could you tell them they should...
Yes they will, but it pisses me off that they hound the bukkit team like they owe them... Its just not right
I actually run 1/2 of my plugins as custom for the server (we have 34 atm), and it is a LOT of work to keep them up to date when the API changes and to make them in the first place
Honestly I trust the work of other developers just as much, if your weary you can just look at their source. In most cases its better to use existing plugins then to just make your own so you can brag about it on websites... cough boduz...
Well a lot of my plugins are to do plugin integration with other plugins so that things run more smoothly, or for small bug fixes and such. Instead of asking a plugin dev to create this entire section of code to play nice with another plugin I just do it myself. Though the distributed votifier modification I made works nice (ie a group of servers can be under one votifier banner and you get perks on each of the server when you vote for the group)
Obviously plugins that are unique are really cool, but "essential" remakes just to brand them custom is a waste of time.. Also if the plugin author has github you can send a pull request.
I fully agree here actually. I have no problem with everyone asking about a release time, even those who dont bother to read the forums to see if it is answered already. But, when they hear that it is not ready yet and get angry about it, then wedgies should be administered. Personally... I like the wait. It's like knowing what you are going to get for Christmas, only not knowing WHEN Christmas is! So exciting!
I know, just seems silly to add a pull request to a plugin that will be used less than 1% of the time
