With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

If I might make a suggestion?

I realize that much has been changed and/or added with MC 1.3, and that it will take time to expand and cover all these fields. However, would it be possible for you to promote an RC earlier that doesn't have these, but will just run stably in MC 1.3? Something to allow us to update all our servers and plugins as early as possible. The API features can follow on its heels.

That is how the first release works :)

Seph mentioned in the first post that the size of and additions/removals to MC would delay the first RB. That's why I posted what I did.

Those additions/removals are just part of adjusting craftbukkit to the latest minecraft. You can't skip those or you don't have CraftBukkit

In the past there has been a spreadsheet showing what the developers were working on for the latest build update, is there one for this one? It was nice to see the progress even if we couldn't do anything about it. :)

I don't think its public. Let me fill you in:
Currently the a's are winning. The w's aren't far behind and the f's are there just doing their thing.

The team is doing fantastic work, by the way.

I assumed they were doing good work, I'm just bored and would like to hit f5 on a spreadsheet every 30 minutes. :D

    Thanks TnT.

    Not this again.

You know what really ruins Bukkit releases for me?

This type of post. Please (EVERYONE), just stop it. You've been told 1000 times why the releases take time. You've been through many many releases and it's the same everytime. It's not bad planning, and it never has been. You're lucky you get a free server mod at all.

I'm curious have done this for all the past updates? Have you had any issues with dev plugins killing your server. I'm fascinated. Since you are a developer do you have play around with the code of a plugin to work on your server.

I was always afraid to do this because its really hard to tell what will break. I mean its not difficult to try and put everything back if it breaks. Sorry this is kind of a useless questions, but I'm just curious.

If anything does break it shouldn't be a problem. Just take backups.

If someone already asked this question I'm sorry. But will I have to generate a new world for my server?

If you want emeraldore to spawn, then most likely.

No, you can keep the same old map but instead just keep walking and let new ungenerated chunks generate. This will allow for the new blocks to spawn.

I signed up for a cloudcrafting server recently. Their servers will automatically update when bukkit does, apparently, so I'm going to hold off creating my official world until then. In the meantime I've been familiarising myself with configuring the server and messing around with plugins since this is all quite new to me. Thanks for your hard work, Bukkit team. Don't listen to the 12 year olds crying about the wait time.

Sorry if this sounds noob but is there a place where you can download the beta versions for 1.3?

I've one question/concern with this. Will there be some option to "disable" some of the new features soon and later add those to the API to be accessed by plugins?
Why I'm asking this: Some of the new features - like the villager buying/selling items - are a huge impact to the whole server economy system and such.
So in order to move to 1.3 as quickly as possible with one of the following 1.3 compatible builds there must be at least some way to disable some of those features until they can be modified by plugins.

Just some thoughts, no intention to push here ;-)

To all those who are complaining, you are free to make your own plugin system and update it right away. Untill then, the Bukkit team is doing a great service for the community.

First of all, many thanks to the bukkit developers for the great mod, and the hard work they are doing to get it up to 1.3. I know it's frustrating for all us server mods to possibly have to wait till they're done, but it's unavoidable. Unfortunately, many of our users won't understand this. We can't push the developers to work faster, and we don't want a poor product. However, is it unreasonable to ask for an updated estimate of when it'll be ready? I know my server users are asking me several times a day, and the best I can say is "they're working on it, they said maybe late, no date given, no updates for several days...oh, and they are updating their posts about the new Curse bar, just not their product that we're all eagerly anticipating"

Again, whether it'll be ready tomorrow, or next month, I realize the difficulties. All I want is semi-regular updates on progress, and an idea of when I can expect to be able to upgrade for all my users.

The levels of some peoples' ignorance in this thread are astounding and disgraceful. Thank you to the bukkit team for all of their hard work.

Thanks Seph and all the other members of the Bukkit/Minecraft team! I can't wait for 1.3 tonight! I hope that the 1.3 Bukkit will come out. I can just put up a Vanilla 1.3 server so at least my users don't eat me alive. lol.

    Hey there,

I really appreciate what the bukkit team is doing here and the work being done in general.
W/o bukkit, I would not even run a server let alone 1.3 or whatever else new version.

From my perspective, the plugin devs wait for a RB to be released before they update their plugins (most of them at least) so they do not have to release a new version at the same speed the dev builds are released. We (server admins) wait for the plugins to be released in turn to start using 1.3. This chain can delay an upgrade to the latest MC release up to 4 weeks and longer as we have seen in the past.

The danger of having an unstable plugin is quite high, since if stuff like permissions, protection or other vital stuff misfires on a live server this can drive the users away in droves.

However sticking to 1.2.5 works and we can tell the people not to upgrade - or to downgrade. So no issue here. We have a temp, parallel 1.3 server running (vanilla) for those who want to upgrade already and use the latest features.

The opportunity I see there is that if there was a 1.3 dev build of Bukkit available already, we could test which plugins are working already now. Also a bukkit server w/o plugins is already better than vanilla.

Any chance for that? Or is the dev build currently too unstable to use? Or did I misunderstand the top post and there is no such thing as a dev build of 1.3 and the 1.2.5 RB is the latest thing available?

Dude learn some fucking respect. Go now. Go and make your own Minecraft MP Software. Make it perfect in every way. I want no bugs and every plugin possible, and I want it released on every update the minute Minecraft updates. You don't deserve to have a computer, or Minecraft. They should just give you how every much you paid and revoke your license -__-

    EDIT:

OT: Oh god.... I Just finished reading EVERY post in this thread, I think my eyes are bleeding....

I honestly have to say that reading through this thread saddens me. It saddens me that some users don't know how to appreciate what they are getting for free. Something that the Developers don't even have to work on, but something that they choose to work on. For free. So who cares if it takes 1 hour, 1 day or even 1 week for CraftBukkit for 1.3 to be released. Whatever happens, the Bukkit Dev. Team deserve the thanks and support of each and every user who relies on what they produce.

To the Team: Thank you so very much for producing what I consider to be an essential part of Minecraft MP. Without you, many of the most well known server communities would never have been created. You encourage and nurture the many creative minds that Minecraft reaches out to, and allow us all to do amazing things. So from me, thank you. Take your time.

Those Developers/Admins who REALLY care about their servers will be happy to wait for the Bukkit Team to release CraftBukkit for 1.3 when they are ready. Those people will be able to understand and accept just how much time and effort the Bukkit Team put in.

    Once again, thank you.

Well I woke up this morning, 8 hours after midnight, which is a couple hours after midnight in Sweden's time and realized that 1.3 is not released yet? This greatly saddens me. Well I can't wait until bukkit updates, I love this thing thanks for those who make it! :)

Hey Bukkit team, great work so far and GL with the 1.3 update!

Just came here to check if it's possible to move the spawnpoint in MP without mods? Just getting our server ready for 1.3 and we're fine with playing vanilla really, but it would be great to move spawn :D
