With the Minecraft 1.3 release date fast approaching, a lot of people are wondering when we will be releasing a CraftBukkit Recommended Build for Minecraft 1.3. We hope this short announcement will answer those questions.

Due to the size of the impending 1.3 update, we are unable to guarantee that we'll have a compatible CraftBukkit Recommended Build out in time for the release of Minecraft 1.3. Although we started working on the update immediately after the Minecraft 1.3 preview was made available to the public, a lot of things were added, removed and changed in Minecraft from 1.2.5 and, as such, this update requires more work than usual to get things up and running. That being said, we'll continue to do our best to get an update out within a reasonable amount of time and will likely follow our usual policy of promoting the first Recommended Build the moment we get something that compiles and runs without any testing done whatsoever.

As we have done a significant amount of important work on CraftBukkit 1.2.5 builds since our last RB, we'll be promoting a new Recommended Build shortly. This is done so that people have a reliable, stable build to use until we can get a 1.3 compatible build out and so that everyone who relies on Recommended Builds are able to take advantage of all the fixes, improvements and so on we've done since the last 1.2.5 RB.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support; we greatly appreciate it!

Ballsy... But you make a valid point, as long as people are aware of what they are getting.

The trouble is too many server providers refuse to run anything but RBs, so we have to compensate for that rather than force them to wait until everything is 10000% stable.

But if, like he said, and they don't release a RB for a while, then ppl will have to suck it up and use a DEV build. The REAL problem is plugins. Because modders have to have a build to update their plugin and if the update team doesn't get a DEV soon, we will have to wait a month.

No, lots of server providers (the ones that don't let you upload your own CB) wouldn't run any old dev build.

Most plugins won't need an update. They'll run fine on 1.3 when it's out. Plugins that do otherwise, should be pretty easy to fix up. Plugins using nms obfuscated methods (those devs know who they are) can already be updating most of their stuff to the new obfuscated values by decompiling the 1.3 preview. The few methods that are uncertain, can be generally patched day of release, leaving little lag time between 1.3CB and plugin updates.

My server runs on dev builds of CraftBukkit. Any bugs I find I report on leaky and they get resolved. I run my server, in full production, with 45 plugins on dev builds. I am doing nothing that cannot be done by the community.

Perhaps my server will be the first one on 1.3. Perhaps I'll take everyone's players from them when I do so. Perhaps not. All I know is I do not need to wait for an RB for full on plugin compatibility, nor do I need to wait for an RB for a stable server experience.

I have absolute confidence in the abilities of Wolvereness Amaranth and feildmaster to be able to handle this migration of CraftBukkit to 1.3. They have done nothing but amaze me with their abilities, and I thank them from the bottom of my Bukkit for all their hard work.

Yeah, so you need to update a RB as soon to the official release as soon as possible becuase when 1.2 came out, it was a couple weeks before 1.2 RB release came out. And at the time I was helping with a server and they died cause they could only update to RB like you said. I only wish that you can give us a DEV as soon as you finish, and a RB as soon as possible after you test it.

That is the plan. A great deal of work goes into promoting RB's, hence the reason we don't hand them out like candy at a parade.

Same here its just I have that little worry that the same will come like the 1.2 update. I am also one of those ppl who use all DEV updates and plugins. I also hope I get users from this as well. We'll just have to wait and see. I just hope there's a DEV update next Wednesday/Thursday when the update is here.

I usually don't post replies to these threads. But this time I had to post. Please know that I fully understand if this gets moderated or flamed, I expect it. Will I reply to flames, no. Will I care, no. Do I care if the Bukkit Team reads and hopefully gets something positive out of it, yes.

First and foremost, thank you to the Bukkit Team for consistently presenting a quality product that in my opinion without its existence Minecraft servers would not be nearly as popular as they are today. Of course, I would be amiss if I were not to directly thank Notch and Mojang for building the game with which Bukkit could not exist. Now I am not saying that Minecraft servers would not be popular without Bukkit, but Bukkit is a massive improvement upon the vanilla Minecraft server by allowing an interface for the creative minds of thousands if not millions of developers to be leveraged to make an already dynamic and fun game even more so.

Now, as to the time and effort put into each build. I have personally seen the amount of effort that goes into the de-compiling, de-ofuscating, investigating, adding modifications, and recompiling process as I have done it myself on a much smaller scale. It is no simple task, period. My mere words on this forum post are not nearly enough to express my gratitude and appreciation to both the Bukkit Team and Mojang for making and continuing to improve upon such a fun game.

I, as a server admin and developer understand the time delay in releasing new updates for such a complex product. Not to mention the fact they do this for FREE and in my opinion get WAY too much flak from the community on how "slow" things are to release or buggy or "insert complaint here". Let me be blunt for a bit, you get Bukkit for FREE. You don't pay for it, you don't even have to support it, just download and install it. You get all of that for FREE. It doesn't cost you a single penny aside from your time to download the server, install it, and add plugins from developers who also make write code for FREE. If you donate, fantastic, you should if you can! If you can't donate, then at least say THANK YOU to the team. At least show some respect to them for the amount of time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears these people have put into this product. It is INSANITY for someone to complain about something they receive for FREE. If you donate, then maybe you have a little leeway, but realistically the Bukkit Team should NOT receive any negative feedback about release schedules or product quality. It is FREE. If I were a paying customer, fine, that is a different story entirely.

Show respect and gratitude to the Bukkit Team. They are demonstrating the power of like minded individuals seeing an idea and improving upon it. This is an example of the power of the human mind to create and improve. If only people would focus the same energies on making negative comments to doing positive things, we would all be better off in this world.

It may be just a game, but at least for me it is a relief from the daily stresses of "normal" life and I appreciate that.

THANK YOU TO THE BUKKIT TEAM AND MOJANG!

Bukkit I love your API and I want to say you guy rock. I think that we need to be appreciative of the Development team as Developers and Admins our selves we must realize its not easy to be them. Constantly asking questions about when its released. I too have asked, I know that this team will do the best they can to get a Bukkit release out as soon as possible. Please dont bite the hand that feeds you people complaining it will only get you hurt you in the end. Bukkit Development is doing all they can do and more to get this done it is not easy.

Now since they work for Mojang, they can get out a RB much quicker for newer updates...?

    /facepalm
The people who got hired at Mojang are not working on Bukkit anymore. There was a prerelease of 1.3 to give Bukkit time to update. So probably not.

I as well run off of development builds. I've ran into snags here and there, and hiccups that aren't reported (Woops,)but obviously it runs perfectly because I can run a seemless server without any crying from the server (Other than it being offline.) So running development builds, or non-recommended (beta) builds are always a plus as long as you know what you're doing, which you being a veteran here obviously know what you're doing. Thanks for helping me see that I am not the only one that actually does this :)

Like so many others, I'm eager for the release of 1.3 RB. My eagerness caused me to start a rather contorted post here regarding why I thought it should be sooner rather than later - but then I realized I was just being selfish and so I went and clicked the "Donate" button instead.

You guys are doing good work and you deserve our patience and our gratitude (and our donations).

    Thanks.

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone involved with updating Craftbukkit and the plugins we all use.

Secondly, yes I'd like CB to be stable on the day of 1.3's release, but then again I'm more than happy to wait.

When we get a big update like this, I just back everything up, update to 1.3 straight away and put up a temp map for as long as it takes to get CB and the essential security plugins working.

Players don't generally mind, and they seem to enjoy building a new spawn area, roads, blah blah blah.

I've got my 1.3 map, created on a 1.3 PR server ready to go as soon as 1.3 is released to the public.

    So there we go ...

Formal, well done. I would indeed too wish to see 1.3.1 as well , but do let them take their time and simply let them form the 1.3 before moving onto the 1.3.1 , but nice work on putting that onto their concerns before I did.
