100mb port?

I'm thinking of getting a server with the following specs:
    i5-2500 3.3GHz Quad-Core
    16 GB DDR3 Memory
    1TB HDD
    5000GB Bandwidth @ 100mbit port

However, I'm worried that the 100mbit port may limit the potential of the server. How many players do you think it can hold before my bandwidth limits me?

I used to have a server with 100mbit upload and it could easily hold about 20 players

I have a feeling the HDD is the bottleneck, not the 100mbit port. My creative server has up to 80 people online at a time with a 100mbit port. I used to have a 500GB HDD and the server would completely lock up during saves and block history actions would take awhile. I got a SSD this month, and now that lag is completely gone at 80 players online has no lag with only a 100mbit port.

Thanks for the info! When I do need an upgrade, I'll grab a SSD. Nice to know I don't have to worry about the port

  5. 100MBit is fine, 1GBit will only help if you get DDOS'd

Just buy some RAM and use Ramdisk. Also you can buy SSD for fast backups ;)

If I ever do hit my disk I/o limit, I'm just going to upgrade to a SSD. 16gigs ram is enough for me

100mbit can hold 500 players no sweat...

100mbps is plenty for anything but frequent DDoS attacks.
