First you should make a new thread.
    And comply with this:
    http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/you-need-help-we-need-this-information-to-help-you.2018/

    EDIT:
Made a new version, which is even more newb-friendly.
It downloads CraftBukkit.jar and minecraft_server.jar. Using official links, I think there is no problem with that.
It automatically opens README.txt and the file you need to delete 2 spaces from, which is the only thing to do manually.
    I also added more ASCII.

    Oups...
And I can change the craftbukkit version to the recommended one if you want.

    EDIT:
I didn't change the craftbukkit version to the recommended one, but corrected the typo:

I have been running a Bukkit server. It has been smooth gameplay to everyone. But a friend of mine knows how to make the server use more RAM (I have 6gb, the requirement of the server is 1, I want to use 2-3gb) to make the gameplay on the server even better and less lag. When you create the RUN file, numbers within it make it use more RAM, my friend tested it by changing the numbers 1024 to 3072 to all of the numbers. Once changed, he ran the server, lasted for 5 minutes, then blue screened his computer. Anyway to make the server use more RAM without damaging the computer? Please help.

    Use this:

    Code:
    java -Xincgc -Xmx3072M -jar CraftBukkit.jar
The server can use up to 3GB of ram, and will spend less time on removing garbage, and more on actually running the server.

Which is why I made sure "-Xincgc" was included in all of the setups.

What do you guys think of the new title?

    Hey,

I've downloaded the BAT file and the latest Craftbukkit version, but when I double click to run the server I get spammed with "at net.minecraft.server.propertymanager.a<PropertyManager>", which alternates between a and b, 53 and 61. Any ideas on what I've done wrong, and how to fix it?

Also, thanks for the post, very useful and a great help when I had no idea where to start downloading Craftbukkit.

    Cheers

I have the same problem as ultimohobo,

I installed craftbukkit but when I open the starter it just says
    '\\(myname)\users\(myname)\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\Craftbukkit'
CMD.EXE was started with the above path as the current directory
UNC paths are not supported. Defaulting to windows directory.

then some random stuff that I can't catch, because it starts flashing this like crazy:

    at net.minecraft.server.PropertyManager.a<PropertyManager.java:51>

except half the time it's b and 63. And it flashes this like a few thousand times a second.

What's going on? What did I do wrong? I have the 64 bit version of windows AND java. My starter file is set to the correct directories (x86). What's going on?

    Please help

    thanks

  20. The same thing is happening to me right now. Dunno whats up. Any suggestions?

Ah found this on page 15, seems to have oslved my problems.

"Found the problem. Windows doesn't like the -Xincgc tag (go figure).

In the STARTER.bat file you use to start your server with, replace -Xincgc with -Xms####M where #### is the same number value in the -Xmx####M tag.

So if you had -Xmx1024M, then replace -Xincgc with -Xms1024M."

Hope this fies it for you guys.

You need to connect with your local IP. Access your router for it :) It may be the same as the port forward as well. This is the IP that YOU use to connect, not the other players. Technically, there are 2 IPs that are used to connect, "Local", yours, and "External", the server's IP that other players outside of your network use to access it. An example of a local IP is like... "192.168.0.5" Hope this helped :D

Funny thing about that, I didn't see a single mention of the Macbook Pro. Probably Apple's best selling product (that isn't an iPhone or an iPad).

Though if it were me, I'd buy a Macbook and put Ubuntu on it. :D

Well, in all honesty, you really shouldn't be trying to run a server for anything on Windows. The bluescreen was likely not bukkit or java's fault though. BSOD's are usually driver issues.
Something like this should help you though:
    Code:
    java -Xmn512M -Xms1024M -Xmx3072M -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:ParallelGCThreads=1 -XX:+DisableExplicitGC -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=500 -jar craftbukkit.jar
That script is similar to the one I use for my server. Change the information as needed to suit your configuration.

minecraft_server.jar isn't needed. Craftbukkit contains all the code required to run a server, so if you're installation still includes the minecraft_server.jar, you should remove it.

    Check this out:

    :)
Refurbed is the way to go...
Or with my uncle's Apple Employee discount.
Oh and I buy the OS not only the computer which looks nicer.
Anyways no need to go into a fight ;)
    Didn't know that, thanks!
    EDIT: Here's a lighter version (doesn't download minecraft_server.jar)

Here's the same for Windows if you want to use them for OP:

You shouldn't have to buy refurbished products just to get a lower price when you can get brand new products that perform the same (or better) for that same low price.

I'll update the Mac OS X version, however the Windows link is broken. But you have given me an idea: Perhaps using buttons instead of links would be more aesthetically pleasing and simpler.

I see no point in buying a Mac for OS X when I have 10.6 running perfectly fine on my PC with no hacks or modifications. All updates are 100% safe.

All you need is the right hardware, and OS X will run without fuss.

However, I do like Apple's hardware. Though while I think the price is mostly justified, my wallet would never live through a purchase in apple's store.
