Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
    Fixed:
    • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
    • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
    • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
    • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
    • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
    • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
    • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
    • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
    • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
    • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
    • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
    • Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
    • Fixed exploit with jungle saplings (turns other saplings into jungle ones)
    • Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
    • Fixed an off-by-one lighting bug
    • Fixed block transmuting (turning one block into another via pistons)
    • Fixed placing mushrooms in daylight, where they can’t survive
    • Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered block items when destroyed while on
    • “save-all” (server) now works even when you have toggled “save-off”
    • Fixed turning half-blocks into full-blocks while you’re standing on them
    • Fixed seed displaying in F3 debug when the seed is unknown (multiplayer)
    • Fixed villager texture changing clientside per profession
    • Fixed falling off ledge corners while holding shift
    • Fixed players falling when reconnecting to servers where they were previously flying
    Added:
    • Chat history and much better chat editing
    • A few new decoration blocks
    • “Back” and “Quit” buttons to OutOfMemoryScreen
    • Made cats more realistic (read: probably annoying). I hope it’s enough to cancel out any joy you may receive from the previous feature!
    • Added a “minimal” debug menu for testing with. Shift+F3 to hide the graphs.
This is just a short announcement to let you know that we are aware of this and are working on it as I type this. Please note: Minecraft 1.2.4 has bumped the protocol version, so it is incompatible with 1.2.3.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

i just dont get something, with bukkit working with mojang right now, wouldn't they at least have a beta or un-recommended build right now, seriously.

What tears, you're just seeing stuff. And if you're going to make something out of imagination you could have picked something a little more creative than an Ocean biome no? Look if I could collect all the fanboys, I'd put them to work on making an ugly swamp biome look better. Help Notch out a bit yeh.. Personally though I think it would be a waste of time, probably make it look even worse than it does already :D hehe

"Ever consider that now more than ever the team is busier? Updating minecraft, AND bukkit now. Its hopeless, i know, but grow up. Yes it takes a while, but its free! So be happy its even there."

Ever consider that what is really hopeless, is getting fanboys to see that Mojang is not indie, they don't have indie budgets, yet they roll out updates the way they do like this. Which I think it is pretty inconsiderate to those who run servers, which rolls down to just players who want to play online. Mojang come across as stingy when they could have got more hired to help work on multiplayer/API/AI much earlier on like earlier last year even.

So dude I'm not complaining about bukkit or minecraft, just Mojang and the way they handle things like this, that is all it has been. Free to be messed around with updates that don't seem to be barely tested at times, 1.2.1 changelog anyone? common fanboy pull your head out, lighten it up, comments shouldn't be getting you down, afteral you should happy, its even out there like you say.. this stuff is either ignored or taken on board. I'm just hoping Minecraft doesn't have another small update like this again before 1.3, this update should be it for a while as bukkit should have worked on all the client bugs that were effecting cb from being able to get a recommended build that isn't just for an outdated minecraft version!

"Its a small update probably wont break most plugins."

I don't count on probably, and also you ignore client mods that will all need to be updated again aswel.

Well good on bukkit for keeping craftbukkit trickling along this way, Mojang should be paying them if they are working on this out of pocket, afteral no bukkit not many minecraft servers worth playing on :)

The update was an annoyance at most. Sure, I lose my mods, and sure, my server has to wait for an update, but thanks to the new code cleaning, my plugins won't break when the update actually comes. Besides, Beta Builds don't take long to come out. It takes a long time for a Recommended Build, and that's understandable, especially considering the frequency of these updates, and the fact that they aren't getting paid for any of this, making CraftBukkit free for us, which I am thankful for. So guys, just wait for a Beta Build, it won't take long. Time makes all things possible. :)

I've just been reading through this thread looking for a link to a dev build. Y'know, those things that bukkit brings out about an hour after Mojang does an update, to put my server back online. The fact that you're whining (and encouraging others to whine with you) about not been able to harvest donations from another's hard work is despicable! If "JaysCraft" is so damn bothered about donations, why don't they just run on vanilla Minecraft until the next recommended build comes out?

Oh wait, lets imagine what "JaysCraft" would be like without bukkit, shall we?
    • Next to NO admin functionality.
    • No WorldGuard, meaning EVERYTHING is getting griefed.
    • No Chest protection, meaning ALL your items are getting stolen.
    • No Permissions system, meaning no benefit for your "donators". No benefits = NO donations.
    • Creepers would just annihilate your server, flat out.
So before you decide to start tearing into the people that practically keep your server alive, I suggest you put a bit of thought into just how crappy the likes of "JaysCraft" would be if bukkit had never been founded. Believe me, NO ONE is gonna donate to a server that is a smouldering pile of TNT'ed rubble. These guys could quite easily charge for CraftBukkit but they choose not to. In fact, if you're so dissatisfied with the time it takes for a recommended build to come out why not pull your finger out your arse and write a version yourself, instead of expecting it to be spoon fed to you?

I don't tend to get riled up at stuff I see on the internet, but this has really taken the cake.

Congratulations, no one cares. The Bukkit team is busy working or getting desperately needed rest, not thinking about giving you the special attention you clearly need. And no one else here can do anything for you. But by all means, keep blathering.

    GO BUKKIT!

Also isn't it basically a merger with Mojang? I'd think it would take more than a short time to lay the foundation for them working together.

Just because they've joined Mojang doesn't mean this will get done faster. Quite the opposite!
They are now doubling the time they are putting into Bukkit because of their API design for the new updates in Minecraft server's themselves. Just consider how much you don't really know about Bukkit's team. I mean no disrespect, but I only want to ensure respect for the Bukkit team, a phenomenal group of programmers.

I dont understand if you are calling me a liar because i sign the check for the monthly cost of service or because you think I dont ask for donations.

I dont see a need to ask for donations, cost of running a bukkit server is so tiny compared to the actual cost of hosting everything else, I find it negligible in the grand scheme of things. 9$ additional cost is what i estimate bandwidth and cpu time to be in overages, but in reality i could not point out the 9$ on a bill anywhere.

Or better you yet, you gotta bug, report it, mebbe it'll get fixed, you know? Cuz ain't we in this togethah, ain't we crafters from the soul?

Most likely, Mojang gives money to this 'separate entity' for the work they do on Minecraft, seeing as that (and NOT bukkit) is Mojang's product. So they probably got paid for the bugfixes they made for 1.2.4, but they're still basically donating their time to get craftbukkit updated. Given that MC is closed-source, they quite likely also have legal agreements stopping them from simply copy-pasting the new code into CB, cause if Mojang wanted their source in the public domain, MC would be open-source.

Regardless though, they do a pretty good job and its only been getting better over the last 6 months of getting out these updates for all us admins to have a much better server environment than vanilla allows.

And to all those whining about "how easy it must be" to get out an RB, craftbukkit is open source, if you think its so easy, get out an RB yourselves :p

They were caught up hours ago, maybe you should do some research before you go posting crap.

Dev build working pretty good, but mcMMO is giving some console errors but that will be up to the mcMMO developers to fix.

Great job Bukkit team on the builds, ignore the haters/stupid kids that are to ignorant or stupid to look/use the dev builds.

I just updated to -=- http://dl.bukkit.org/downloads/craftbukkit/view/00971_1.2.4-R0.1/ -=- and I have the following plugins -=- [GroupManager] [Permissions] [HawkEye] [DeathControl] [Essential] [EssentialsChat] [EssentialsSpawn] [WorldEdit] [WorldGuard] [LWC] [dynmap] [glassdrops] -=- Everything upgraded fine as far as I can tell everything is working properly.

Thanks Bukkit Dev Team for you such an amazingly quick update to 1.2.4!

EDIT: I am running this on nix. Not sure how it will respond on Windows or other OS.

Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from

Is this my fault or a bukkit malfunction? If anyone knows :D
