A new CraftBukkit Beta Build 1.2.3-R0.2 (#2060) that provides Minecraft 1.2.3 compatibility, fixes issues in 1.2.3-R0.1 and a critical crash exploit is now available. As always, please remember to backup your servers before updating, just in case. As this new beta does include critical fixes, updating is highly recommended.

Notable changes in this new beta include: a temporary fix for the entity interactivity issue, a critical crash exploit fix and a fix for the block transmuter exploit among many other bug fixes, improvements and changes. If you find that you can't interact with entities, try relogging back into the server.

Will plugins break with this build?
Unless the plugin developers of your plugins have been keeping up with Bukkit development, plugins will most likely be broken due to the recent optimisation and cleaning of our code.

    What is a Beta Build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such, there are no guarantees that they will not contain minor bugs. If we do find out they are broken, we will mark it as such on DLB and promote a new one. A beta build may contain incomplete API and new features but they should not interfere with running the build in any way.

Each beta brings us closer to a recommended build. If you're eager to run a 1.2.3 server and don't mind the possibility of some bugs, try running a beta build. If you need to be sure that there will be no problems when running your server, patiently wait for a Recommended Build.

    Known Issues:
    • Entities can't be interacted with after login (vanilla issue). This build contains a temporary, hacky fix for this issue.
    • Strange chunk generation artifacts on the client. Relogging fixes this issue.
    • Enderman do not spawn when generating The End. Fixed in dev builds.
For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the changelog here

  2. You have 3 choices
IF you want to play it safe download the 1.1 R6 build but be aware minecraft 1.2 will not work (latest official minecraft client), you will need to downloadplugins that have 1.1 R5-R8 versions.

If you cant wait and want a 1.2 server, download the 1.2.3-R.o.2 Beta Build (latest beta build) and use all 1.2.3 plugin versions.

If you can wait and want to play it safe again, wait for the 1.2.3 Recommended Build

Hi, I have a Bukkit server and I just started to run it on the newest beta build. I have just updated my plugins, however only few of them will work, even though they are up to date. Does anyone know what is wrong?

When I was using the previous beta build, 1.2.3 R0-1, I could not attack some mobs, destroy certain minecarts, and the majority of players weren't damaged when attacked by another player. It was like they weren't even there. Was this the issue that was fixed? It is the bukkit build and not a certain plugin causing this? Does anyone else have these problems?

I HAVE A PROBLEM!!! The cute little baby villagers are not spawning and as well, NPC villages do not have a butcher and other occupations anymore. In singleplayer though, the same world does havve occupations and baby villagers. Is this BUKKIT??? Sadly I can not try this out with the latest build as the world is 1.2 and the conversion destroys the village!!!!!!!!!!

Removed discussion of the ForceOP hack, as discussing it is what the makers of the many variations of the ForceOP hack rely on to acquire their victims. There is no way to gain op unless you are running your server in offline mode. Any program in existence that claims otherwise is trying to lure you in to running it in an effort to see if your server is at risk.

You'll notice that in every video you either have to have the program running before you login or need to login, run the program and restart Minecraft. This is because these programs are designed to take the IP you enter into the ForceOP hack for testing, your username and password and send it to the creator. It usually sends the creator an email that says something like:
"New server to grief: <IP you entered>
    Username: <you username>
    Password: <your password>"

Every single time someone reports this issue, it turns out to be the same thing. A malicious program designed to fool server admins into thinking their server is at risk, running to try it out and make sure they aren't and then later finding their server has been attacked by someone with op because they know your username and password, and thus can op anyone they want on your server.

Until someone brings a real exploit that allows you to gain op to my attention, we'll have to continue stopping the discussion of this 'hack' to slow it spreading down. We take every exploit report we get seriously and investigate each and every one. To this day, we have been unable to find a legitimate exploit to gain op in any server and every reported exploit has turned out to be a malicious program that collects your information in an effort to exploit you and your server.

If you're looking to report an exploit, we advise people to stop posting exploit discussions publicly and, instead, contact one of my Admins, myself or create a private ticket on http://leaky.bukkit.org.

"There is no way to gain op unless you are running your server in offline mode."

Is there a bug/exploit in offline mode that gives OP? D: Or is that about users logging in with admins nickname?

Thanks for handling it this way, especially welcome is the fact that you edited the "problematic" post and posted this explanation. This should be perhaps frontpage stuff though.

The second. Offline mode servers don't verify the account with minecraft.net, allowing hacked clients to simply rename the user to whatever they wish.

run in online mode and your secure, theres no legit reason to run in offline mode

In offline mode usernames are not verified against Mojang's Minecraft authentication servers. Anyone can join an offline server using any name they wanted.

Bah. Got ninja'd while fighting the forums. "You must be logged into to do that"...but I /am/ logged in. I jsut freaking did it 3 times now. -_-

Beta builds are somewhat tested, but then again, I've been running off 1.2.3 R0.2 and before that the 1.2.3 R0.1 as soon as enough plugins updated for 1.2.3 (namely worldedit/worldguard from the jenkins at build.sk89q.com and several others) and no issues so far. I've got a few plugins that are still in dev states (like Multiverse and WorldEdit/Guard) but otherwise I don't see a problem if there aren't any data corruptions occurring as of yet.

My tip is to try out the latest Beta build since most of the issues are fixed by now (Unless you want to try out the latest bleeding edge dev builds in which there can be some issues introduced by other bug fixes). Most plugins now are being either released for 1.1R6-8 or for the 1.2.3 R0.1-2 builds. Go ahead and hold a testing day on your server to see whether it is worth it to switch now before a RB is released and just be prepped for it (afaik many plugins will continue working through 1.2.3 R0.1-2 and quite possibly the 1.2.3 R1 when that comes around.).

Is it wierd that I had more problems with Beta Build 2 than Beta Build 1 and am still using Beta Build 1 instead? lol

So I don't know if this is anyone else's problem, but I figured I would post it anyway. Me and my friend decided to go to the nether, but it spawned us on top of the bedrock roof, I figure it's because our nether portal is above the old build height so it's bugged, would that be it?

  28. Offline

    TnT

Yes, that is it. Vanilla nether height expanded, but vanilla nether world generation did not. Build your portal lower.
