    I have:
    port forwarded correctly
Allowed the ports to be inbound through my firewall
checked i am giving out the right IP (yes i have dynamic but it hasnt changed)
configured the bukkit server files correctly
Netstat shows the port to be "LISTENING"
yet whenever somebody tries to join using my external ip they see the "polling... could not reach server" or when they join the game they get "connection timed out: connect"
CanYouSeeMe says the port is closed, and the server IS running at the time i check.
I don't really understand what could be stopping people or CanYouSeeMe from accessing the port as it is correctly forwarded and opened and Listening for a connection.
Any help is much appreciated :)
I have attached an image showing what the programs show me regarding port 25565

Try letting java.exe through your firewall.

Edit: Also, is your server ip in your server.properties config? If so, remove it.

No there is no IP in the config
and how do i allow java.exe through windows 7 firewall?
EDIT: i figured it out, it said that it was already allowed but i also allowed through javaw and something like javas or something similar

So, is it working, or still not working? You weren't very clear.

When you port forwarded, did you create a TCP and UDP or did you use a both setting?
Another way to allow or open ports is to go into your windows firewall setting in your control panel, click on "advanced settings" then, bare with me, I'm a bit hazy in this part, but select a tab for ports, then open a port specifically for TCP and a second with the same settings but the name as UDP. You have to make sure you create both an incoming and outgoing connection. I can't go through the firewall settings because I'm not on my home computer.

Ahh sorry for being unclear, it is still not working and i did a TCP and a UDP in the port forwarding
I have also made the rules for outgoing too, as it seems i had only done incoming.
but it still doesn't work :(

Just a Thought, Your ISP has the ability to block ports and connections if theve restricted services

Are you with a US based ISP or UK as normally contacting them and just querying if theve blocked the certain ports might be worth doing

i changed it to 25564 hoping that would get around it if my isp had blocked it.

So you still can't connect? Even using a different port? and allowing through your firewall?

What does it say when you try to connect? Are there any errors in the serverlog?

Right, but I'm curious what is under those pull down menus. Because usually on routers I've used you have to tell the router which ip (or device) has the application on it.

After that...I'm just guessing now. Are you using any security software? If so that could be a problem. If not...then you could add inbound and outbound rules in your windows firewall for those ports.

Already have added the ports as a rule to windows firewall

ok thanks for your help :(

  28. Sorry I was too lazy to read all the reply above. Did you try connecting using local host?

    niallkb

    yeah, and that works fine

Problem solved, it was to do with the port forwarding.
i had to define the device to forward for using the ip of my pc, not its name from a list of devices. pretty strange.
thanks to all for their help
