A new CraftBukkit Beta Build 1.2.3-R0.1 (#2034) that provides Minecraft 1.2.3 compatibility is now available. As always, please remember to backup your servers before updating, just in case.

Will plugins break with this build?
Unless the plugin developers of your plugins have been keeping up with Bukkit development, plugins will most likely be broken due to the recent optimisation and cleaning of our code.

    What is a Beta Build?
A Beta Build is in between a developer build and a Recommended Build. These builds simply work and are promoted much more frequently than a Recommended Build. While we will do some testing before promoting a beta build, we will not be running it through our extensive test process. As such, there are no guarantees that they will not contain minor bugs. If we do find out they are broken, we will mark it as such on DLB and promote a new one. A beta build may contain incomplete API and new features but they should not interfere with running the build in any way.

Now that a beta has been promoted, we'll be working on new features, API and more fixes for a Recommended Build.

    Known Issues:
    • Entities can't be interacted with after login (vanilla issue).
    • Strange chunk generation artifacts on the client.
For more detailed information on what is contained in this update, please see the changelog here

Yea we already use it you see :), So like above I was planning on scrapping our unused chunks and keeping our used ones and generating a new IMPROVED world around them :).

Have found on mine that everything seems to work fine with the latest build, however its changes the seed of my server map to '0' so ive got these half biomes around with shear flat edges around them. Have tried setting the seed number in the server properties yet still nothing.

  4. If you want a new world try using the multiworld plugin. Much easier then messing with the properties

Nah I still want to keep my old world and server (has all our built stuff on it) but when the seed for the map randomly changed, if we do any regen with worldedit it regens it back to what it should be with the new seed, not the original one. And it seems to try and build the new biomes around in the new areas we explore but seems to conflict with itself causing some very strange stuff.

Well, someone helped me solve my problem, and I was about to add some things to the wiki page, as well as correct wrong and misleading information, but since it's locked and can't be edited, I'm gonna just assume it really IS the job of the devs to update that page, and therefore it having wrong information is really irritating.

1: Update the craftbukkit version from R4 to R6.
2: The file just needs to be named craftbukkit.jar and NOT craftbukkit1.2 or whatever. That info is actually inaccurate.
3: For Windows users, it might actually be useful to put instructions on how to show file extensions in the preliminary notes.

Why I even had to attempt to add this in is beyond me.

What do you think about providing a torrent for the latest RB/Beta build to avoid overloading the server?

    YES OH GOD YES.

Or even a Mediafire/Rapidshare mirror. Anything to fix how frustrating this is

    edit: FUCK

WindTag - Don't be rude. This is a free and open-source package. You're not paying anything for it, but the devs gave up their entire weekend to make it work. I agree that good and accurate documentation is important, but wikis have a tendency to be vandalised so I can't blame them for locking it down. If you want it accurate, try modifying the article and then emailing it or putting it up on your blog and tweeting dinnerbone or one of the other devs. I'm sure they'd appreciate it if you made an effort to help them out instead of abusing them. It's fairly irrelevant now anyway - in a couple of weeks all the documents will need another update. Perhaps you can write a draft with the information for 1.2.4 and present that to them?

And can I second lfrst05 with a request for either a torrent or a mirror, please?

If there is a torrent, every server-admin could help bukkit by seeding the craftbukkit jars. No more sever overload.

ok so am using CraftBukkit 1.2.3-R0.1 for my server atm. when i log onto the server says my seed is 0, when i check it out on single player my map seed is what it is suppose to be. Ideas on how to fix it so my multiplayer server has the correct world seed.

*even gone to the point of editing the level.dat file to change the seed it uses to the one its suppose to but still doesnt work.

Josh - this is NOT a release, it's a beta. So no, you can't just click "update bukkit". If you absolutely MUST have 1.2 now (and I will be installing it shortly myself) then make sure you backup the entire server directory to another location, including your world and all your settings. I'm assuming you have already installed bukkit in the first place, as per http://wiki.bukkit.org/Setting_up_a_server ... In a way, you're about to do it again. You'll need to download the new beta release (which is NOT a recommended build, so expect a few bugs). Then rename that file to craftbukkit.jar and put it over the top of your existing one (AFTER you backup. Remember to backup. I am NOT JOKING HERE). You will need to remove ALL your plugins and get new versions of them. Most of them will not have updated yet, or may have development builds hiding somewhere so you'll have to go searching. Be careful to download legitimate versions, as hackers will be putting so-called "development builds" out there hoping to suck you in and get their hands on your server. They might work fine ... but have a trojan backdoor that lets them use your machine to hack the CIA. So be very careful. Any plugins that have not been updated will need to be removed until they are.

The above sounds very gloomy. It might go smoothly. I haven't actually done an upgrade of bukkit before, but I am a systems administrator so I know my stuff. I would suggest that unless you really know what you're doing you wait for a recommended build instead of the beta. The only reasons to run beta are if all your players clicked "yes" to the upgrade option in Minecraft and are now wailing that they can't connect any more (sheesh, Mojang, way to make life difficult - would it have been so hard to have a 1.1 and 1.2 version run in parallel?) or if you are desperate to play with the new features and are not willing to wait until the bugs are ironed out.

If you don't have bukkit yet and you want to start a server, stick with vanilla until bukkit does a recommended build, then install bukkit.

I hate it when people use this as an excuse for anything. Monetary value should not dominate everything.

This is not the first time I've brought this up, in fact, it's the fourth. I've been having problems getting the manual installation to work since Minecraft 1.3. There was even a time when the actual code that I was supposed to copy ans paste into Notepad was broken and I had to show it to a friend who knew Java just to get it fixed. This is not the first time that information has been unhelpful and it's been that way for months for me, that is incredibly aggravating. The continued inaccuracy of the download page makes me wonder how many other pages are inaccurate. Whoever curates the wiki is not doing a very good job and hasn't been for a prolonged period, and I have been polite about it in bringing it up the past three times. Why should I continue to show that courtesy if it is clearly being ignored anyway?

The code you copied and pasted into Notepad was Batch, using Java commands... And the IRC/Bukkit Help section is always open for your problems.

Pretty sure it's supposed to act that way to stop players regenerating the map in single player and finding resources.

k so anyone having issues with the biomes changing after doing a regen with worldedit with this beta version? Even without doing regen ive got some weird lines going through new biomes that im finding. eg found a huge jungle with like a 100x15 line of flat snow through it

    ImminentFate

yes, that is normal, since the new update converts all worlds to Anvil. It will be different, so I suggest (unless you have a HUGE amount of stuff on your server) to schematic all buildings into a fresh world

    worldedit...

    ImminentFate

Yes, Worldedit has the option to export schematics.
    1. Select the object to schematic. If you need to precisely select more than two points, use //sel poly
    2. type //copy *remember it takes your location as a reference. e.g If you select it while you're 5 blocks above it, when you go to paste it it will be 5 blocks below you.
    3. type //save <name>
    4. The schematic will be saved in your craftbukkit folder under schematics.

    To Load a schematic:
    1. Go to where you want to paste it. remember, it pastes it relative to the position you were in when you first copied it.
    2. type //load <name>
    3. type //paste
