EssentialsChat + Factions | Fixing chat?

I'm new to Minecraft servers and plugins for them, so I figured the best place to ask for help would be here.

I have a basic idea of how to change things, but I don't know where to look.

What I want to do is remove the < > tags from a members username. I previously did this in the Essentials config file, but once we installed a Factions plugin they're back and I don't know how to remove them.
