Defaults Can't Use Sign?

So I'm starting a factions server I'm using this factions plugin http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/factions/
I claimed my shop/spawn with safezone and default members cant use any of the signs or any of the echests in spawn. I've tried everything I could think of including making a region around it ontop of the spawn adding to perm for them to use chests still nothing. I am using the essentials signs btw.

I just world guarded the area its ok i guess

Set spawn protection to zero in your server.prop file.

To expand on what @Matroyzy said if it wasn't 100% clear:

Go to the root directory of your server where the world folders are.
Open your server.properties file.
Change the value of spawn-protection to 0.
Save and restart your server.

That should be it
