Help. Ive tried erasing the ip in the server.properties, but then, no one can join my server using the ip. Ive also tried changing the port to 25556 and portforwading that but it still did not work. Help! I want it to work and have people able to join my server. I have no other server running so im kinda speechless and I need help here!

First you have to be port forwarded. After that you don't have to put an Ip in the server properties.
To Find Out If you are portforwarded use this tool http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
YOU MUST HAVE THE SERVER RUNNING IN CHECKING.
Another Thing you dont put in your server ip in the server.properties you put in your ip that your router(s) give you.

The port you are trying to use is probably already in use. Do you already have java.exe running in task manager possibly from trying to run the server earlier? End this process and try starting the server again if this is the case. Also, do not put your IP in server-IP.

What port were you trying to use by the way? 25565 is your best bet because it not only defaults when typing in your IP only, but as far as I know no other (commonly used) programs use it.

For others to join your server they type your IP. (Go to http://whatismyip.com to check this). For you to connect type the same thing, type 127.0.0.1, or type localhost:25565 (Replace the 25565 with your port if you have a differrent one).

If this problem occurs for anyone ever again just restart your computer.

On a mac go to Console, it is in Utilities folder. From there look for java. If that doesn't work try closing "main". It should be in the dock

titch12345 Check to see if java.exe is running in your task manager. You may have ran the jar instead of the script file. Also check to see if the IP which is given in the server.properties is correct, according to your computer/server.
