Hi I just started a CraftBukkit server today and thought everything was running smoothly until my friend couldn't get on. I was told I need to port forward or something but I don't know how, I also went to a website that told me what my IP was but I can't connect to my server with it and I'm just really confused. If anyone can explain to me what to do in step by step instructions that would be great. I'm young BTW so if you could make the computer talk a little bit more understandable you would really be helping me out. Thanks,

If you have windows is a common mistake, just off Fire Wall

    Java, firewall.
    If portforwarded:
Typ ur ip in ur browser
Confgure ur portforward ( depends on router)

with a mac i dont know how to port forward, but the ip that other people use to connect should be your public ip, to find that just go here:http://www.whatismyip.com/
but in your server properties it should be set to your local ip you can find this by following this 16 second youtube vid:

You use your computer's internal IP to connect to your server, other people need your public IP.

That only really works if you don't use a router to connect to the internet.

Yeah when I enter this: 10.0.1.8.:25565 in my minecraft it works, lemme get on my sisters mac

So if I try my public IP on my computer it wouldn't connect?

The router sits between your local IP and your public IP so, anyone on your network uses your local IP while people on the other side of the router aka the internet use the public IP.
It should work provided that port forwarding is setup in the router cp which you can access with the router IP shown in that video.
