Our Release System
The most common complaints we've gotten about our new release system is that getting a Recommended Build out is taking considerably longer than before. The reason we switched to a new release system is because the amount of work that we have to do to get a Recommended Build out meant that there was a huge delay before servers could update and this was unacceptable. We felt that you should be able to choose if you wanted to take a risk and run an update immediately or shortly after Mojang released it or to wait for us to certify and release a Recommended Build.

For the most part, our new Beta releases are what our old Recommended Builds were. If you can't wait for us to go through the extensive testing process we've designed to certify a Recommended Build, then you should be using the Betas. We know that many of you want us to promote a Recommended Build shortly after a Minecraft update is made available, but expecting as such is unrealistic. It is simply...

A new CraftBukkit Recommended Build 1.2.4-R1.0 (#2126) that provides Minecraft 1.2.4 compatibility, many bug fixes and critical (crash) exploit fixes is now available. As always, please remember to backup your servers before updating, just in case. As this is our first 1.2 Recommended Build, updating is highly recommended.

Will plugins break with this build?
Unless the plugin developers of your plugins have been keeping up with Bukkit development, plugins will most likely be broken due to the recent optimisation and cleaning of our code. However, if the plugins you use have already been updated to work with at least 1.1-R7 or 1.2.3-R0.1, then you should be fine.

What is a Recommended Build?
A Recommended Build has gone through extensive testing and should not have any known issues. These builds are for Server Admins who want peace of mind when updating their server to the latest Minecraft update. We'll do our best to ensure that Recommended Builds only have...

Mojang have just released an update to Minecraft, bringing us to 1.2.4.

This update is primarily a bug fix release but does include some nice improvements as well:
Fixed:
  • Made placing half blocks on existing half blocks (to make a full block) easier
  • Limit framerate on menu screens, no longer uses 100% cpu and make my computer melt
  • Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to anvil, when there’s blocks at max height
  • Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you’re editing them in SMP
  • Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at maxheight at spawn
  • Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
  • Fixed storage minecarts dropping enchanted items
  • Fixed crashes on invalid server addresses when joining a server
  • Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login (Multiplayer)
  • Fixed dupe exploit with paintings
  • Fixed furnaces and dispensers dropping enchanted items
  • Fixed the “flickering” of chat as it vanishes off the screen
  • Fixed...

As announced back on the 16th of Februrary, 2012: Bukkit is now following a new release system that enables us to better cater to the countless various types of Server Admins out there. This new system allows us to provide those of you who want quicker updates with new Beta releases, while still providing those of you who would like peace of mind when updating your server with well tested Recommended Build releases. As a result, we ask that plugin developers, game server providers and everyone else please move to supporting the various cycles of our new release system so that we may fully utilise the usefulness and potential this new system provides us with.

What is the difference between a Beta Build and a Recommended Build?
A Beta Build:
  • Has not been thoroughly tested, so may contain minor bugs.
  • May have incomplete features.
  • May have incomplete API.
  • With the exception of the first Beta Build promoted after a Minecraft update is released, Beta...
